Today was a particularly bloody day on the battlefield and near the front line, despite the “harvest ceasefire” declared June 24, Unian.net reported.

Five Ukrainian soldiers were killed in battle at Krasnogorovka and Novgorodskoye and 2 were wounded there; 1 was killed at Maryinka; 3 were killed from tripping a mine in Novotoshkovskoye and 3 were wounded there.

The US condemned the violence, saying it was the bloodiest day of battle this year, Business Insider reported.

Russia-backed forces stepped up their attacks today, with 20 violations of the ceasefire and a heavy battle on the Mariupol line at Krasnogorovka, Unian.net reports.

A sniper also killed a Ukrainian soldier named Sergiy Gladkiy, age 22, from the town of Strabichevo in the Mukachevsky District, of the 128th Separate Mountain Infantry Brigade, bringing the total to 4 KIA.

The ATO [Anti-Terrorist Operation] reported:

“Today in the ATO zone was notable for an activization of provocations on the part of the unlawful armed formations virtually all along the line of contact. Despite all agreements, the militants not only used banned weapons but tried to break the defense of the ATO forces.

Starting at one in the morning until almost 8:00 am, the bandit formation from the direction of Staromikhailovka fired on our strongholds near Krasnogorovka from 122-mm artillery, 82-mm and 122-mm mortar-launchers, grenade-launchers and heavy machine guns. At about 4:00 am the enemy increased the shell-fire pincer and fired 10 rounds of Grad-P missiles from a mobile rocket launch system and also used a tank. About that time, under cover of fire, about 20 militants approached our positions. A battle broke out during which ATO soldiers used grenade-launchers and fire arms and and with capable actions forced the criminals to retreat. Unfortunately, during the battle, three of our soldiers were killed, 7 were wounded and 1 was captured.”

Militants fired on residential homes in Krasnogorovka from a tank.

On the Donetsk line, a sniper was active and another Ukrainian soldier was killed near Novgorodskoye. In addition, militants fired grenade-launchers and small arms on the outskirts of Avdeyevka and the Butovka Mine, and fired mortar-launchers at Nevelskoye and Novgorodskaya.
On the Lugansk line, after midnight militants fired grenade-launchers and small arms at Tryokhizbenka, Novoaleksandrovka, Novozvanovka and Donets. They also pounded Krymskoye with 82-mm mortars. Ukrainian forces returned fire 9 times.
In addition to the very bloody day on the battlefield, the Ukrainian army suffered casualties in training as well, with 8 Ukrainian soldiers injured in an explosion at a training ground in Cherkasskoye in Dnepropetrovsk Region, Unian.net reported.
The soldiers were taking part in a tank crew competition at a training ground when a detonation cord from a portable de-mining system got wrapped around the mine roller and tripped a fuse. The injured men were taken to area hospitals; three of them were listed in serious condition and five in fair condition. The prosecutor’s office is investigating the accident.

Meanwhile, the separatist news service DAN-Info said that one Russia-backed separatist from the self-declared “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DNR) was killed in battle, citing Eduard Basurin, the self-style commander of the DNR forces.
Basurin said Ukrainian forces made 30 attacks, firing 82-mm, 120-mm and 122-mm mortars and tanks as well as grenade-launchers and small arms. They said 3 civilians were wounded in the Petrovsky District of Donetsk, but provided no details.
The DNR blamed Ukrainian forces for shooting down the OSCE’s drone, DAN-News.info reported.

Alexander Hug, the first deputy of the OSCE’s Special Monitoring Mission came to Trudovskiye at the Petrovsky District in western Donetsk today to conduct an inspection.
