Fighting Escalates with 44 Attacks from Russia-Backed Forces; 1 Ukrainian Soldier Wounded

Fighting escalated today with 44 attacks by Russia-backed separatists, Unian.net reported. One Ukrainian soldier was wounded in action.

As the ATO [Anti-Terrorist Operation] reported:

“As was the case in the past few days, the situation was most tense in the Donetsk sector. Here, the largest number of enemy fire provocations was recorded near the village of Zaitseve. Starting from 18:00 Kyiv time, the militants attacked the Ukrainian positions five times from infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers and heavy machine guns. In addition, the Ukrainian fortified positions in the Avdiyivka industrial zone came under militant fire three times at the end of the day, while those near the village of Maiorsk were attacked twice.”

On the Mariupol line, militants fired 82-mmm mortars on Pavlopol and small arms were fired on Gnutovo, Talakovka, Lebedinskoye and Shirokino.

A Ukrainian defender was wounded near Maryinka from enemy shelling. 

On the Lugansk line, Stanitsa Luganskaya was attacked. Ukrainian forces did not return fire.
