1 Ukrainian Soldier Killed, 3 Wounded; 3 Russia-Backed Fighters Killed, 3 Wounded

In the previous reporting period, one Ukrainian soldier was killed and three were wounded, Gordon reported, citing the October 3 morning dispatch of the the Joint Forces Operation (OOS). Three Russia-backed soldier were killed and three were wounded on October 2, as well.

The separatist news source Dan-Info did not report these casualties, although it reported that Ukrainian forces fired along the Shirokino-Sakhanka line with 82-mm and 120-mm mortars.

Russia-backed forces fired 34 times on Ukrainian troops using 82-mm and 120-mm mortars, armed BMPs, grenade-launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms.
Oleksandr Turchynov, Ukrainian Secretary for National Security and Defense Council, warned that Russia was actively trying to deploy additional troops along the Ukrainian border,  Gordon reported October 3 (translated by The Interpreter):

Along the Ukrainian border, we can observe active attempts to deploy additional military units, and in quantity they are comparable to what was in 2014, when the State Duma made the decision to introduce troops; therefore it is a serious threat. New divisions, which they are deploying on our border is not only a demonstration of force, it’s very expensive. They may be used for conducting active combat. We must understand that and be prepared for that.
