An Invasion By Any Other Name: The Kremlin’s Dirty War in Ukraine
The amount of violence reported in eastern Ukraine remains alarmingly high and has been gradually escalating over the last several weeks.
Generally speaking, Ukrainian government battle reports are made 12-24 hours after the fighting took place. Yesterday the Ukrainian government reported that two of their own soldiers were wounded and three Russian soldiers were killed over the previous 24-hour period:
2 Ukrainian Soldiers Wounded; 3 Russian Soldiers Killed, 2 Wounded in Fighting in Donbass
The situation remains "tense but under control" on the front line, the Ukrainian ATO reported; 2 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 3 Russian soldiers were killed and 2 wounded, said the Ukrainian presidential spokesman
Ukraine Reports 50 Attacks – Heavy Shelling Throughout Night
The Ukrainian military claims to have shot down a Russian drone.
Once again, today we see the Ukrainian government report more than 50 attacks over the previous 24 hours. Ukraine Today reports:
Сombined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 55 times in the past 24 hours, including 25 times in the Donetsk sector, 19 times in the Mariupol sector, six times in the Luhansk sector and five times on different parts of the area, according to the military press center.
According to the report, the situation was most dangerous in the Donetsk sector, where the militants fired automatic grenade launchers, mortars of various calibers and self-propelled gun mounts on the Ukrainian fortified positions near the town of Avdiyivka, and the villages of Zaitseve, Maiorsk, Kirove and Leninske, as well as mortars near the villages of Opytne, Novoselivka Druha and Novhorodske, military officials say in an update as of 06:00 Kyiv time on June 26.
